Data are arranged and plotted in a stimulus-response surface format (similar to drug-drug interaction plots), providing a unique view into the effects of vagal nerve stimulation site and parameters on vagal and gastric activity.  These maps allow investigators to rapidly screen the stimulus parameter space for parameter combinations that provide the optimal ratio of ON and OFF target effects in each subject.  When viewed as a group of animal subjects, one can learn which regions of the parameter space are best for recruiting the intended physiological effects.  When used in reverse, one can gain a better understanding of the fibers (e.g., A, B, or C) whose stimulated activity mediated the observed effects at the end organ of interest (in this case, the stimulus site and parameters that optimally excite the ventral antrum of the rat stomach)."}}
